Hey there! Welcome to Sowing Wild. Kick off your wellies, put down your spade, and make yourself at home.
This weekend, I signed the lease on my very first allotment plot (on a very cold and overcast January morning!).
I’ve got to be honest, amidst the excitement and forward thinking of me growing my own fruit and vegetables, free of plastic packaging and air miles; I’m nervous. What if I mess it up? What if I plant all my seeds and really try my very best, and I fail? Publicly, in front of all those seasoned allotment-goers who will walk past my patch every day and shake their heads?
But hey, it might not come down to that; let’s rewind and go back to the beginning.
My name is Althea, and I’m 28 years old and live in Warwickshire, England; where it rains more than it shines!
My plant journey, like most people’s, started with a single spider plant around three years ago. Fast forward to today, I’m studying with the RHS, focusing on the Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation & Development, with over 60 houseplants and a good year of garden crop growing behind me.
This blog aims to document my progress. Wins, losses, and everything in between! As well as doing my own growing, I’ll be putting forward my favourite, tried and tested by yours truly, zero waste and vegan eco-swaps that won’t break the bank, along with houseplant care guides and hopefully some sales in the future!
My partner in crime is a 7 year old Beagle by the name of Delta, and she’ll be poking her snoot in wherever she deems fit!
So, put the kettle on, and stick around. Leave a comment in the comment section, I’d love to hear your experiences and suggestions 🙂
This fills my soul 💚 Don’t worry about “failing” – everyone I know who’s grown their own veg has had all sorts of ups and downs. It takes a few cycles to learn what works and what doesn’t. The most important thing is you’re trying. Good luck, and do keep us updated!
Hey Althea, I truly love this and can’t wait for your tips and tricks. I can’t seem to keep anything alive when it comes to houseplants!
Thanks for your blog, nice to read. Do not stop.
